Scotland has hundreds of castles and historic sites to explore, but visiting even a small portion of them can add up in terms of price. This is where Scotland's Explorer Pass comes in. I found it a great way to save money on entrance tickets, and overall it was definitely worth purchasing the 7 day pass.

The latter costs £35.00 for 7 days and the former costs £52.20 for a year. Unless I'm completely missing something both seem to offer free admission to the same places, eg Sterling and Edinburgh Castles, sights on Orkney, Iona Abbey, etc, etc. We're in Scotland for almost 3 weeks so if they have the same validity the latter is a no-brainer.

When you consider that getting in to just Edinburgh castle alone is £19.50 you can see that this could certainly be worth purchasing! There are concession prices of £28 / £36 for students and adults over 60.
